Some loss with it being analog mostly depending on the quality of the cable but it might be worth it to you especially if you already have Wii Component cables lying around. The PS3 for me strikes a happy medium between both HDMI and Component on the WiiU it has the same sharpness as HDMI without the slightly washed out picture and the better colour range of Component. I think its a big difference between the two cables cause the colours are much better and it is 480p. Be sure to switch to 480p edtv in the options.
Wii component cables do work with Wii U but it can only output 480p via them. I have my HDMI cable power cable and another hdmi power for my ps3 but thats off when Im on WiiU. Upon some research on Ebay the wii original cable is 3 or 4 times more expensive than ANY of the third party offerings. My cable is a universal one for ps360wii so I guess the wii cable may only be designed for 480p. Wii with component renders games in 480p and the TV upscales them to 1080p which looks worse then the Wii Us upscaling and adds input lag due to it being an analog signal being displayed on a.
However due to video sync delay in digital to analog conversion the component picture will not look clean and slightly fuzzy. Either way I dont think the upscaler really makes a noticeable difference to even the shittiest input. Either stiff and fragile or wet and limp.
To expand on that the cables get a signal from point A to point B. As mentioned the Wii is hooked up with a Wii2HDMI adapter and set to 480p or whatever the recommended HD setting is. Its in your best interest to just get cheap HDMI cables label them and zip tie them together behind the back of the TV to switch out the system you want to use.
If you can find it you can use a Wii VGA cable a quick google shows that people have been able to get it working at 720p on the Wii U. Though maybe it is the other stuff around it. HDMI will always be a better quality.
Other than that no you can pretty much get whatever cable you want for the wii u. Very good and sharp 1080p pie. The component cables will however allow you to use progressive scan 480p instead of only interlaced 480i and will have better color saturation.
If you own a lcd tv you should get a component cable.
